King Solomon Lives: A Nubian Love Story
September 23 | 7:30pm
The story begins in the year 1996, in an inner-city housing project in Baltimore, MD. David, a 10-year-old youth, is struggling to hold on to the close relationship he had with his mother, Mabel; his father had left a few years earlier. After an intense scolding from his mother for staying out past his curfew, David is sent to bed without dinner. David’s grandfather goes to talk to him. While talking, David tells his grandfather that he does not believe in love and that it is not real. David’s Grandfather begins telling him the story of King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba.
While listening to the story of this Nubian love affair, David begins to dream. As we (the audience) experience the dream, we are theatrically transported to the year 976 B.C., and witness the story unfold. At the end of the dream, we are returned to 1996, and the issues that exist between David, Mabel and Sammy are resolved.
